Case under Digital Security Act: Online editor, two associates sent to jail

Editor of an online platform and his two associates have been beaten and sent to jail after a case lodged under Digital Security Act at Kotwali Police Station on Sunday.
According to police, the three were Mamunur Rashid Nomani, editor of the local online news portal’ Barisaler Khabor’, his associates Kamrul Mridha and Labu Gazi.
Officer in Charge (OC) of Barishal Kotwali Police Station Nurul Islam acknoledging the fact, said Barishal City Corporation Mayor Serniabad Sadiq Abdullah and his wife and children went for a walk in the Trish Godown area on the banks of the Kirtankhola River at around 1am on early Sunday.
At that time, the three accused secretly recorded their videos without any permission.
When realizing the matter, the victims protested, the accused three men tried to run away. At that time the police chased and nabbed the accused three.
Sheikh Syed Ahmed Manna, a councilor of Barishal City Corporation’s Ward 21, who was present at the scene, said that a case was filed with Barishal Kotwali Police Station on Sunday under the Digital Security Act.
The three arrested accused of the case produced before the metropolitan magistrate court on Sunday, and judge ordered to send them to jail.
However, according to eyewitnesses, 3 accused including Nomani were beaten and injured at that time arrest on Trish Godown area by the associates of Manna.
