Online distribution of retirement welfare cheques among teachers-employees kicks off

The government on Sunday started distributing cheques of retirement and welfare allowances through online among the private teachers and employees who are intended to perform the holy Hajj at Saudi Arabia this year.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the online distribution from Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBEIS) auditorium here.
He also talked with teachers from Tungipara of Gopalganj, Companyganj of Syllhet and Kosba of Brahmanbaria through video conference while some of the teachers who have already got their benefits shared their reactions.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, the minister said, “A total of Taka 63.87 crore is now being distributed among 1,851 retired teachers and employees. The money will be sent to their own bank accounts through online which help reducing different types of harassment.”
The government has so far distributed Taka 2,063.50 crore as retirement benefits among 51,874 teachers and employees while Taka 963 crore as welfare allowance among 68,424 teachers and employees since 2009, he informed.
He assured all the retired teachers and employees of getting retirement and welfare allowances in phases.
Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division Md Sohorab Hossain, presided over the function. Among others, Director General (DG) Dr SM Wahiduzzaman of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, and Director of BANBEIS Md Fasiullah, spoke on the occasion.
