A mobile court here on Tuesday night conducted a drive against traders stockpiling onions before selling them at a higher prices in the Bhomra land port area.
Executive Magistrate Zakir Hossain, who led the drive, instructed the wholesale traders to quickly sell the onions in their stock and warned them not to charge a high price.
Zakir Hossain said the traders are constantly being supervised and will face legal action if they defy instructions.
After the Indian government banned export of onions on Sunday, importers, wholesalers and retailers at Satkhira immediately raised the price.
As a result, the onion price rose by a whopping Tk 40-50 per kg in the last 24 hours.
