Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Wednesday said that the prices of onion will come down at Tk 60-70 within a day or two as 483 tonnes of onion came in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf from Myanmar.
The minister disclosed this in reply to a question from the reporters at the Secretariat in the city.
More 400-500 tonnes of onion will come today, the commerce minister added.
He also warned of taking action against the opportunist businesses to control the commodity prices.
“India first raised prices of onion and subsequently stopped exporting. In this news, some opportunist businesses hiked prices of the essential commodity. Monitoring team is working to find out them,” he said.
There is no way to get rid of the situation but raising production, the commerce minister said, adding that it needs awareness of buyers.
“People have started buying onions after the news that India will not export onion that is one of the causes of increasing onion prices,” the minister said.
