Price of local onion, a must item for Bengali kitchen has once again shot up in Bagerhat district markets and it is now being sold here at Tk.140 to Tk.145 per kg as against of Tk. 80 to Tk.90 only 4 days ago.
As a result, the consumers in general and the commoners in particular were thrown into an utter distress. When contacted, Md. Abdullah Sardar, a local retil trader of onion told this correspondent, due to the inclement weather prevailing for the last few days the supply of onion has fallen short and consequently, its price has registered high. For the same reason the price of garlic, another important ingredient for Bengali kitchen has also registered high in the district markets, It is now being sold here at Tk 180 in stead of Tk 160 previously
The price of all kinds of seasonal vegetables has also shot up here. Potato is selling here at Tk 30 per kg as against of Tk 25. Cauliflower is being sold here at Tk.40 in stead of Tk 35. Cabbage at Tk 35 per kg as against of Tk.30. Prices of other vegetables like Gazor, bean, eggplant, broccoli, Usche, Barbati etc. have also increased in the local markets.
