The onion price has increased by Tk 10 per kg at weekend in the city’s kitchen markets. The retailers blamed short supply of onion in the whole markets.
But the consumers disagreed with the theory of short supply and blamed the whole salers for storing ahead of Ramadan which contributed to hike.
Local onion was selling at Tk 40 per kg while imported Indian varieties at Tk 35, which was Tk 30 and Tk 25 respectively last week.
Potato price has increased by Tk2 to Tk3 per kg and was selling at Tk18 to Tk 25 on Friday. The price of other vegetables, however, remained stable. Aubergine was selling at Tk 30 to Tk 35, bitter gourd at Tk 30, bean at Tk 25, cucumber at Tk 25 to 30, okra at Tk 30 to 40, papaya at Tk 20, carrot at Tk 30, tomato at Tk 40 to 50, brinjal at Tk 25 to 30, snake gourd at Tk40, french at Tk 50, horse raddish at 50 to 60, radish at Tk 30, turnip at Tk25, pea at 40 to 50, cauliflower at Tk40 to 50 per piece, cabbage at Tk 40, parbal at Tk 30 to 35, teasel gourd at Tk 60, pumpkin medium size at Tk 50 to 60, gourd at Tk30 to 40, ash gourd at Tk25 to 30 based on size and coriander leaves at
Tk 250 per kg, green chilli at Tk60, capsicum (red) at Tk450 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk200 to 250.
Broiler chicken was selling at Tk 150 to Tk 155 per kg on Friday while the local fowl at Tk 400 to 550, beef Tk 290 while mutton or red meat at 450 and duck at Tk350 to 380, and two pigeons for Tk260 only.
Imported red lentil from Turkey and Canada was selling at Tk 90 while the local lentil was selling at Tk100 to Tk110 per kg.
Sugar price remained unchanged at Tk 48 toTk 50 per kg. Super palm oil price also remained unchanged at Tk 74 to Tk 80 a litre.
The price of palm oil also remained unchanged at Tk 76 to Tk 78 a litre, and a 5-litre can at Tk 560 to Tk 575. The unpacked soybean oil was retailing at Tk 112-Tk 115 a kg.
Fish prices remained stable. Hilsha (Zatka) was selling at Tk240 to Tk300 per kg. Barbal and the scorpion fish were selling at Tk 700 to Tk 800 per kilo each, ruhit at Tk 280 to 450, carp at Tk 230 to Tk 400, lobster at Tk 1,000 to 1,200, pangas at Tk 170 to 200, tilapia at Tk 180 to Tk 230, mola for Tk 250, climbing fish at Tk 250 to 600, lata at Tk 200 to Tk 300, tatkini at Tk 230 to Tk 250, sheat fish at Tk 300 to Tk 500, small fry fish for Tk 250 and butter fish at Tk 660 to Tk 700, Sea fish Marcel at Tk250 to 270, Surma fish at Tk280 to 340.Besides, the price of different kinds of dry fishes also increased by about Tk 20 to 50 per kg.
Of the rice, coarse varieties were selling at Tk 44 to 46 per kg while the fine varieties at Tk 48 to Tk 54 per kg. The BR-28 was selling at Tk 42 to Tk 45 and Parija at Tk 38 Tk 42 only.
Imported ginger was sold at Tk 240 to 250 per kg while the local one at Tk 180 to 200, local garlic at Tk 40 to Tk70 based on size and imported garlic was at Tk80 per kg.
