Onegala, the annual colorful cultural festival of the ethnic community of Garo hilly region of Durgapur and Kalmakanda Upazilas under Netrakona was held at Nalchapa High School ground at Kalmakanda Upazila yesterday.
President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Dipu Moni inaugurated the festival saying “the traditional cultural heritage of the Kura Nree Gustee people is the part of our national culture, So, we should highlight these to our new generations and preserve these to enrich our national culture.
Chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Netrakona and also president of Berishiri Cultural Academy Dr Musfiqur Rahman, the inaugural function was addressed, among others, by Chabi Biswas MP, Juwel Areng MP and Awami League central committee member Remond Areng and director of the Berishiri Cultural Academy Subro Chirang.
The inaugural function was followed by a traditional tribal cultural show. Many children, young girls and boys of Kura Nree Gustee community and artists of Berishiri Cultural Academy wearing traditional colorful tribal dresses danced and presented ethnic cultural songs joining the cultural show.
