One under-19 cricketer tests corona positive

One under-19 cricketer has tested positive for coronavirus. Iftekhar Hossain, who is the part of the second-batch of 15 players for Covid-19 test, was tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is conducting the coronavirus test of the under-19 cricketers in three batches. Iftekhar Hossain has been taken in isolation. The BCB has arranged the cricket coaching camp for the Young Tigers at BKSP in Savar. Before starting the camp BCB decided to arrange the Covid-19 test for the cricketers. The first batch of 15 cricketers and 12 support staff, tested on Sunday, were all found negative for coronavirus and were sent to BKSP.
Game Development Manager of BCB MA Kayser said to the newsmen, “We took sample of second batch of 15 cricketers on Tuesday. One has been found positive [for Covid 19]. He is in isolation now [under BCB management] and the rest of the players have been sent to BKSP for the camp.”
The BCB have selected 46 young cricketers to participate in a residential caching camp, which will start from August 23.
Kayser said, “Samples for the test of the last batch of 16 cricketers will be collected on Thursday and the camp will start according to the plan.”
The 46 cricketers will take part in a four-week long residential coaching camp. During the camp the cricketers will play eight matches at the BKSP and based on their performances in these matches, around 25 to 30 cricketers will be short-listed for the next batch of Bangladesh under-19 cricket team.
