A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced a youth to death with a fine of Tk 1 lakh for killing a seven-year-old schoolboy in the capital’s Mirpur Darussalam area in 2012.
The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka handed down the verdict. Judge Tanjina Ismail of the court pronounced the verdict convicting Mohammad Jahirul Islam, 27.
The brief case statement says that on March 26, 2012, Zahir kidnapped Tanmoy and claimed a ransom of Tk. 8 lakh from the child’s mother. Later, police arrested Zahir and recovered the body of Tanmoy following Zahir’s deposition. The court recorded the depositions of 17 witnesses in the case. Tanmoy was a class II student of Darus Salam Model Academy.
