The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 of Dhaka on Wednesday sentenced a man to death in his absence for killing a teenage girl after rape and cuting the body into 26 slices in the capital’s Hatirpool area in 2012.
The accused Saiduzzaman Bachhu, 32, proprietor of Sonali Tours and Travels in Nahar Plaza of the area was earlier granted bail and he went into hiding on October 26,
last year. The charge sheet of the case was submitted to the court on September 1, 2012 while trial begun on May 20, 2013.
Judge Jayasri Samaddar of the court pronounced the verdict in her crowded courtroom. The court also fined the convict Tk 100,000. Of the 26 prosecution witnesses, the court recorded the depositions of 23 to deliver her verdict.
According to the case statement, Saiduzzaman violated Rumi, 15, and killed her on September 1, 2012, in his office. Later, he cut the victim’s body into 26 slices.
