A court here yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing a schoolboy in Taltoli upazila of the district in 2015.
Additional District and Sessions Judge M Abu Taher pronounced the verdict.
According to court officials the convict is Miraj Hosain, resident of the same area.
The court sentenced Miraj to death under section 302 and fined Taka 20 lakh while the court also sentence him seven years in jail and fined Taka 10,000 for concealing the body under section 201, the court sources said.
Besides, the court ordered Miraj family for giving Taka 20,10,000 to the victim’s family as compensation.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convicted person beaten schoolboy Rabiul, 11, to death allegedly theft of fish at Chhoto Amkhola village of the upazila on August 3, 2015.
Police recovered the body from a ditch of the area on August 4.
After the incident, victim’s father Dulal Mridha filed a case with Taltoli Thana against four persons on August 5.
On the same day police arrested Miraj.
Police after investigation submitted charge-sheet with the court against Miraj.
Later, the judge after examining witnesses and relevant evidences announced the judgment in presence of Miraj.
