A court here on Tuesday sentenced one person to death for killing a farmer 14 years back.
Additional District and Sessions Judge TM Musa pronounced the verdict against Jabbar Ali, a resident of Harabhanga village under Gangni upazila of the district.
The court also acquitted 17 accused as the prosecution failed to prove their guilt.
According to the prosecution, Jabbar beat farmer Sekandar to death over a trivial matter on July 6, 2003.
After the incident, victim’s wife Firoja Khatun filed a murder case with Gangni police station against 18 persons.
After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet with the court on 31 December of the same year against all the accused.
