Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor said one-stop service will be introduced to implement copyright act by stopping book piracy.
“The government is also thinking about running ‘mobile court’ to further strengthen the application of copyright act,” he said this on Wednesday while addressing a seminar styled ‘Book Piracy: Bangladesh and International Perspectives’ organised by ‘Gyan O Srijanshil Prakashak Samity’ a book publication association, at Jatiya Press Club VIP lounge here.
The minister said the government is working from its very beginning for the functioning of copyright act and stopping piracy. “Realising the importance of that, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allocated land in the Agargaon area for the construction of a 13-storied ‘Copyright Bhaban’,” he added.
Asaduzzaman Noor said the work for formulation of National Book Policy has completed. “The process is underway to place it before the parliament after the approval of cabinet,” he added.
He stressed the need for formation of ‘vigilance team’ from publishers to find out the sectors of violation of copyright act.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, Joint Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry Mohammad Manzurul Rahman, Information Technology expert Mostafa Jabbar, Intellectual Property Rights Association Director General Mohammad Azizur Rahman, emeritus publishers Mahiuddin Ahmad, Ameen Helali, Shahidul Haque Mollah and Quamrul Hasan Shayak, among others addressed the seminar.
Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said the Copyright Act-2000 should be made time-befitting one by amending it. Besides, victims should complain to police in this regard, he added.
Shahidul Haque said an initiative has been taken to train up police officials abroad to resist cyber crime.
