A private car driver was shot dead in a shootout with law enforcement and another associate also arrested from Mariners’ Road on Tuesday. They raped a madrasha girl two days ago.
SM Mehedi Hasan, Deputy Commissioner (South) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) told the news in a press briefing detailing the incidents of the rape and the shootout.
The deceased was identified as Shahab Uddin,23, and he worked as a physician’s private car driver in Cheragi Pahar area.
Shahab and Shyamol tricked a madrasha girl and raped her consecutively at Shahab’s moving car on Sunday morning.
They dropped the girl in Goni Bakery area and asked her not to disclose the matter to anyone. Later, police detained Shyamol following complaints from the girl and his brother. Two private cars were also seized.
Shyamol confessed to his and Shahab’s involvement in the rape.
A police team led by Kotwali Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Kamruzzaman conducted a drive to nab Shahab on the Mariners’ Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Shahab and his accomplices opened fire.
Police fired in retaliation. Shahab was detained with bullet injuries and taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where he was declared dead by the physician.
