Chittagong Metropolitan Police commissioner Md. Iqbal Bahar told that the existing police force in CMP is 6,700 against the total population of 70 lakh city dwellers.
According to that, 1050 dwellers come under each police member. He said when the CMP is constituted 38 years ago, the total police force was 3 thousand against the total population of 10 lakhs i.e. one force for 330 dwellers.
For want of desired police forces in the port city, we started the services of the community policing in city, he added. He disclosed it while addressing the inaugural function of community police unit under Panchalaish Ward No.3 at Baizid thana crossing on Saturday as chief guest.
Advisor of the Panchalish community policing and vice chancellor of East Delta University presided over the function . Among others, ward councilor Kafiluddin Khan, educationist Sirajul Alam , Manzoor Alam, Dy poilice commissioner Abdul Warish , OC of Baizid thana Md. Mohsin spoke on the occasion, a police sources said.
