Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive recovered one lakh pieces of Yaba tablet from Natun Transit Ghat area of Chowdhurypara in Teknaf upazila early yesterday morning.
On a tip-off, a BGB team conducted the drive in the area and recovered the tablets after searching a bag, said Lieutenant Colonel Abujar Al Zahid, Commanding Officer of BGB-42.
Sensing the presence of the BGB team, the smugglers managed to flee leaving behind the bag containing one lakh pieces of yaba tablet. The seized yaba tables were worth about Taka 3 crore.
BSS adds: Chittagong Metropolitan Police in a raid arrested a man with 1,000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from Karnaphuli Bridge area in the port city early on Monday.
The arrestee was identified as Abul Hossain, 38, son of Abdul Mazid, and hailed from Sabrang area under Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
On secret information, Bakalia thana police raided a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of ‘Soudia Transport Service’ coming from Cox’s Bazar in Karnaphuli Bridge area under city’s Bakalia thana around 5.30 am and arrested him with the Yaba tablets, said Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bakalia police station.
UNB from Cox’s Bazar adds: Police arrested a police constable allegedly for selling Yaba tablets and seized 23,500 pieces of the tablet from his possession in the district Ansar Office area in Sadar upazila on Monday noon.
The arrestee was identified as police constable Saddam Hossain, hailing from Noakhali district.
Sub-inspector of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station Mamun Mainuddin said acting on secret information that constable Saddam was going to sell Yaba tablets, a team of police conducted a raid in the area around 12.00pm and arrested Saddam along with 23,500 pieces of Yaba tablet.
Mamun Mainuddin filed a case with Sadar Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act on the day.
Later, police produced him before the court which sent him to jail.
2 including a woman held with 4000 yaba: Two drug trafficker including a woman rounded up from Chittagong city area in separate drives in the city on Monday.
Chandgaon thana police sources said RAB forces rounded up one woman named Dilowara Begum(35) from Jalalia residential area under chandgaon thana in city allegedly involved with the trafficking of yaba tablets She was arrested from a flat house of Bismillah Mansion of the area at about 7 pm on Monday.
Law enforcers recovered 3000 pieces of yaba from his possession. Dilowara Begum is the wife of Md. Musa and was residing in a rental flat of the mansion. RAB sources said acting on secret tipoff, Dilwara was rounded up from the house alongwith 3000 yaba tablets.
