After five months of Major (Retd) Sinha murder in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district, a gunfight took place in the same upazila early Tuesday that left one person dead.
There was no crossfire incident since July 31 after Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing at Shamlapur checkpost of Baharchhara union on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive.
A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Baharchara Shyamalpur area in the upazila at an early hours.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
On information, a team of elite force conducted a drive in the area at early hours.
Sensing presence of the team, the gang of drug peddlers opened fire on the RAB, forcing the team to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gun battle.
Later, the team rescued a bullet-injured man and rushed him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
