A person was killed in a gunfight with police in Kushtia on Friday.
Police claimed that the deceased was a robber member.
The gunfight took place on the Kushtia-Rajbari highway in Chadgara area in the town early morning on Friday. Police recovered a one-shutter gang, two pipe gangs, a ramda ( Sharp weapon) , a knife, a Chinese axe, a round of cartridge shutter gang shot two rounds of bullet of pipe gang and several thick ropes from the spot.
Kushtia Police Station acting Officer-in-Charge (DB Police) Sabbirul Islam said on the basis of secret information, a group of robbers were trying to commit dacoit in the area on Kushtia-Rajbari highway.
According to the news, a joint team of DB and Kushtia Model Police Station ambushed there.
Sensing police presence, the robbers fired on the police. Police repulsed the attack. As a result both groups were engaged in gunfight in a few minutes
At one stage, the body of an unidentified robber was rescued in critical condition. When he was brought to the Kushtia general hospital the attending doctors declared him dead. The identity of the deceased could not be known till filing this report.
