Staff Reporter :One person was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion [RAB] at Kansat under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district early Friday.The victim was identified as Matiur Rahman, 35, son of Unsar Ali hailed from Shibganj upazila.RAB claimed that the victim was an ‘arsonist’, who was arrested on charge of carrying out subversive activities during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s ongoing blockade, reports our Chapainawabganj Correspondent.But local BNP claimed that Matiur Rahman was the vice-president of Shyampur union unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal [JCD].District BNP president and 20-party alliance coordinator Shahjahan Miah claimed that the RAB members picked up JCD leader Matiur and then killed him.Meanwhile, the 20-party alliance called for a 36-hour hartal in the district from 6:00am on Sunday to 6:00pm on Monday protesting the ‘killing of the JCD leader by the RAB men’.Major Kamruzzaman, RAB-5 camp commander of Shibganj upazila said the victim was involved in torching vehicles and throwing crude bombs during the blockade.
