An alleged drug trader was killed in an ‘encounter’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Patenga sea beach area on Sunday night .
RAB sources said the deceased was identified as Zafar Ahmed, 35, the prime accused in a case concerning the 13 May large Yaba tablets haul in the port city.
The shootout occurred around 11:40 last night near a check-post on the Sea Beach Road in Patenga as a team of RAB-7 intercepted Zafar and his four cohorts while they were going to the sea beach by motorcycles.
At one stage, Zafar fired gunshots at the RAB men forcing them to shoot back.
Zafar received fatal injuries in the gunfight. He was taken to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead.
