One Killed, four injured, roofs of three shops blown after gas cylinder exploded at a metal workshop of Gournadi municipal town under Barisal district on Saturday afternoon.
The dead victim was identified as Mojammel Paik, owner of the local steel workshop.
Among the injured four others Murad Khan, owner of the shop ‘Murad Steel House’, Alam Sardar, a staff of neighbouring restaurant, admitted in critical condition at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, said Dr. Masud Molla, emergency medical officer of the hospital.
Russell Haoladar, mechanic of a neighbouring motorcycle workshop, Mawlana Sirajul Islam, a pedestrian and Imam of local mosque, admitted at local upazila health complex, acknowledging the facts said Alauddin Milon, Gournadi police station officer in charge. A case would be lodged in this connection, police sources added.
Adhir Karmakar, Gournadi fire service station in charge, quoting witnesses said workers of the Murad Steel House working by using gas cylinder.
At bout 2:30 PM , suddenly the gas cylinder blasted and injured the aforesaid five and blown away roof tops of three shops including the workshop, steel house and a neighbouring electronic shop.
Fire service men rushed to the spot and with the help of local people starting extinguishing flame and rescuing victims sent them to hospital, he said.
