A suspected thief was beaten to death by a mob at West Angarpara Village under Ramganj upazila in Laxmipur district on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Muslim Mia, 50, son of Sekandar. He was a construction worker.
The body of the deceased had been sent to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police picked up three persons for interrogation.
Locals said, the family members of Bachchu Dewan shouted “calling chor” and called the people to protect their valuables. The people of the village came out and caught Muslim Mia on the spot and beat him mercilessly. He died on the spot.
Harun-or-Rashid, younger brother of Muslim claimed that his brother was a construction worker. He said, “I do not know the reason of homicides, but it is purely a case of homicide.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police in Laxmipur said that Muslim was a thief by profession. “We have detained three persons for interrogation,” he said.
