One killed, 7 hurt in clash

A man has been killed and at least seven people were injured in a fierce clash between two rival groups in Chattogram.
The clash took place in the south Khulshi’s VIP residential area around 11:30pm on Friday, according to police.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Hridoy Hossain alias Shukkur, a resident of Jhautola area in Khulshi Thana. Local residents said the clash sparked from an argument over bribes, but the police believe that it was the result of a power clash.
“A truck, carrying materials for building construction, had come to the area on Friday night. Two groups clashed over who would receive a bribe from it,” locals said. “Both of the groups were vying for power,” Sheikh Md Nasir Uddin, chief of Khulshi Police Station, told media men.
“At least eight people were injured and admitted to the hospital. Among them Shukkur died on Saturday morning. He was severely beaten with a bamboo stick.”
He died around 7:45am on Saturday, Nayek Abdul Hamid, of Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost, told . The rest of the victims are taking treatment at CMCH. Police were deployed in the area to prevent further violence, OC Nasir said.
