One died while about 30 persons were injured in a devastating fire in a plastic factory in the city’s south Keraniganj on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out at about 4:35pm.
Local sources and injured workers of the factory said that the massive flame of fire spread inside the factory immediately after a gas cylinder exploded during the making of plastic glass.
Shah Zaman, Officer-in-Charge of South Keraniganj Police Station confirmed the news to the media that around 10 units of fire services from Keraniganj, Postgola and Sadarghat doused the fire.
The injured people are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after they suffered burn injuries in the blaze, the hospital Police Outpost in-charge inspector Bachchu Mia told media.
Causes of the fire could not be known, but it was assumed that it might have originated from gas cylinder expulsion.
Saiful Islam, Officer of Keraniganj Fire service told that one burnt dead body was recovered from the spot. Number of casualties may be increased, he also added.
It is noted that another fire broke out at the same factory last February.
