One killed, 19 hurt in post-poll violences

UNB, Dhaka :A man was killed and 19 others injured in separate incidents of post election violence in Kishoreganj, Netrakona, Sherpur and Pirojpur districts on Thursday.In Kishoreganj, a fierce clash ensued between the supporters of councillor-elect Kajol and defeated councillor candidate Wasim of 2 no ward at Dhulihor village in Hossainpur upazila around 12.30am which left 10 people injured. The injured were admitted to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital.Later critically injured Kashem Miah, 50, a resident of the village and supporter of defeated councillor contestant Wasim, was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the morning. Following the death news, the supporters of both the contestants again locked into a clash, which left two people critically injured. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.Additional police members were also deployed at the village to avert any untoward incident.In Netrakona, at least 10 people were injured in a clash between the supporters of two defeated councilors of Sadar municipality in Moinpur area Around 2pm. Police fired seven bullets in the air to bring the situation under control. The injured were taken to sadar hospital.In Sherpur, miscreants vandalized furniture and looted the house of defeated councillor Fakhrul Alam of Sherpur municipality in Dighirpara area in the morning. Fakhrul Alam claimed that a group of 30-40 supporters of elected councillor Amir Hossain Badsha attacked the house and looted Tk 1.5 lakh after vandalizing the house. Denying the allegation, Amir said Fakhrul is making conspiracy against him.In Pirojpur, nine people sustained injuries as supporters of councillor-elect Salam clashed with defeated councillor candidate Kabir in Pirojpur municipality on Wednesday night.
