UNB, Cox’s Bazar :A man was killed and 10 people were injured in a series of gunfights between two rival terrorist groups in the district town on Friday.The deceased was identified as Sheikh Abdullah, 26, son of Wazed Miah of Dakkhin Rumalirchhara Samity Bazar in the town.Police and locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between two rival terrorist groups – ‘Rocky Bahini’ and ‘Hasnat Bahini’- over establishing supremacy in the locality.Second-in-command of ‘Rocky Bahini’ Rana and that of ‘Hasnat Bahini’ Ramjan were leading their respective group in the absence of their chiefs who are in jail now.The both groups locked into a gunfight early Friday in the Samity Bazar area over the issue. However, no one was injured in the gun battle.Members of both the groups again engaged in a gunfight in the area in the evening when they exchanged several gunshots. Even, they opened fire on each other in the area around 7pm that left Abdullah dead on the spot and 10 people injured with bullets.The injured were taken to Sadar hospital.On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control, said superintendent of Cox’s Bazar police Shyamol Kumar Nath.A tense situation was prevailing in Dakkhin Rumalirchhara Samity Bazar, Konarpara and Bachamiagola areas following the series of gunfights.
