A team of Customs Intelligence in a drive arrested a passenger from a Malaysian flight along with two gold bars weighing two kilograms in the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Wednesday.
The arrested person has been identified as Ranjit, inhabitant of Nababganj upazila in Dhaka district, customs officials said.
Customs Intelligence Directorate’s Director General Moinul Khan
confirmed the matter and said that the officials conducted a drive at HSIA transit lounge following a secret information around 12:30pm. They intercepted a passenger when he was leaving the airport. The officials searched his body and recovered the gold bars from inside pocket of his pant.
He said that Ranjit came to Dhaka by a Malaysian Airlines fight.
Legal actions would be taken against the arrested passenger, the DG said.
