Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested a man along with 12 gold bars, weighing 2 kg, from Durgapur area in the town on Tuesday noon.
The arrestee was identified as Tabibur Rahman, 45, son of Amir Ali of Ghiba village at Benapole port police station.
Commanding officer of BGB battalion 26 Lt Col Jahangir Hossain said a patrol team of
BGB obstructed the motorcycle of Tabibur driving at Durgapur at noon on his way to Ghiba border point from Benapole town and recovered the gold searching his body.
Tabibur confessed to BGB that he had long been smuggling gold to India. He was later handed over to police. A case was filed.
