Staff Reporter :Customs officials arrested a man along with one kg gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city on Thursday morning.The man has been identified as Shahidul Islam, 36, son of Abdus Salam, hailing from Raujan upazila of Chittagong. Mainul Khan, Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, said that Shahidul came here from Dubai by a flight of Emirates Airlines at around 8:45am.On suspicion, customs officials challenged him while he was crossing the green channel and found gold worth Tk 50 lakh after searching his laptop bag. Later, they arrested Shahidul.Meanwhile, customs officials seized 1000 cartons of foreign cigarettes in an abandoned condition at the airport yesterday morning.
