Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested one Showkat Hasan Miah for alleged extortions from a private university UITS and life threat to the Vice Chancellor of the university.
With this allegation ,Showkat Hasan Miah has been arrested .He was arrested from Kalyanpur in Dhaka on Wednesday following the warrant of arrest of court.
Chairman of PHP Group of Chattogram Sufi Mizanur Rahman is the founder of the University (UITS).
The academic activities of the UITS was being conducted from a rented building Twin Tower at Baridhara in Dhaka. As per tenancy agreement with Twin Tower for ten years, all rent and services have been paid to Tower owner Showkat Hasan and the campus shifted to its own premises . It is learnt from PHP sources that from very beginning of shifting the university campus, alleged Showkat Hasan resisted and harassed the UITS officials in different ways . At one stage alleged Showkat Hasan demanded toll of Tk.57 crores from Sufi Mizan creating a fake deed with forged signature. In connection, GD lodged with the concerned police station, sources said. Failing to realize the so-called toll money from UITS authority, Showkat Hasan gave life threats to VC Dr. Mohammad Solaiman and PHP chief Sufi Mizan.
Following the life threats, PS to Vice Chancellor Mostafa Kamal lodged FIR before the Bhatara Thana in Dhaka.
