A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment in a case filed for throwing acid on a college student in 2013.

A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment in a case filed for throwing acid on a college student in 2013.
The court also fined lifer Monir Hossain Tk one lakh which has to be given to the victim. Besides, Under Section 324 of the Penal Code, the court sentenced Monir to two years jail and
fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer three months more imprisonment for stabbing the victim. According to the prosecution, Monir Hossain proposed Sharmin to marry him while she was going to college on January 15 in 2013. As she turned down his proposal, Monir hurled acid on her and stabbed her before fleeing the scene.
Later, Akhi’s brother filed a case against Monir and his associate Md Masum with Bangshal Police Station. Fazlur Rahman, inspector of DB police, submitted a chargesheet on March 14 in 2013 against the two accused. After examining all the records and 21 witnesses, Pradip Kumar Roy, judge of Acid Crime Prevention Tribunal, handed down the verdict acquitting Masum.
