A local court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for violating his teenage stepdaughter two years back.
The convict is Mosharraf Hossain, son of late Amir Hossain, of Shantihat area in Sadar upazila of Bhola district.
The convict, who was present in the dock when the judge pronounced the verdict, was also fined Tk 50,000.
According to the prosecution, Mosharraf married a woman who had two daughters from her first marriage in 2008. They were blessed with a son after the marriage.
Mosharraf along with his wife, son and two stepdaughters had been residing at a colony in the city’s Karnaphuli area since then. In June, 2012, the woman went to her parents’ house in Brahmanbaria keeping her two daughters at the house. Mosharraf taking the opportunity violated one of the teenage girls on June 3. A case was filed against him on June 11 in this regard.
After examining the records and four witnesses, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 M Rezaul Karim handed down the verdict.
