A Chittagong court here yesterday sentenced a man to life term rigorous imprisonment for killing his wife in Aturardipo area under Panchliash thana in the city.The court also fined the convict Taka five thousand.
The judge of Chittagong Divisional Special Court Mir Ruhul Amin pronounced the verdict convicting Shamsul Hoque, for killing his wife Kohinoor Akther, in 2000.The prosecution story is in brief that Shamsul strangulated his wife to death over a family feud on February 21 in 2000.
Later, police recovered the body from a ceiling fan of their house. Later, victim’s father Daru Mia filed a murder case with Panchlaish Police Station against Shamsul.Police submitted charge-sheet on February 10 in 2002 and the court framed charges against him on February 21 in 2003.
The court after examining 10 out of 14 prosecution witnesses delivered the verdict convicting Shamsul in his absentia. Shamsul Hoque remained fugitive since the killing.
