A Chittagong court on Wednesday awarded a conductor 10 years rigorous imprisonments (RI) for committing fraudulence with a iron rod company.
The court of Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Mohammad Shahjahan Kabir also fined the convict Tk 10 thousand and in default to suffer six months more imprisonment. The convict is Khondokar Jahirul Islam, alias Abudur Rashid, son of Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain, hailed from Kustia district.
Court sources said the accused Jahirul Islam went to the BSRM Steel Re-rolling Mill’s corporate office, in Dhaka on May 3, in 2008 with a Pay order bearing no-3412820, dated 30 April 2008 for buying iron rod. A supply order from BSRM Dhaka office was sent to its local office in Chittagong against the Pay order and the office delivered 16 tons of iron rods to the convict.
That Pay order was submitted before the Sonali Bank Ltd, Cantonment Corporate Branch in Dhaka through the HSBC Bank and the Sonali Bank authority informed that it is a forged Pay order and no such Pay order was issued by the bank. Later, Habibur Rahman, Manager of BSRM filed a case with Kotwali thana against Jahirul Islam. The court after examining a all four prosecution witnesses pronounced the verdict convicting Jahirul Islam.
