Chattogram Bureau :
A Chattogram court on Sunday sentenced a man to 10 years in jail for smuggling gold three years back.
The court of Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh AsfakurRahman also fined the convict Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer three months more imprisonment.
Convict Jamal Uddin is a resident of East Guzara village under Raozanupazila of the district.
The prosecution story is in brief that acting on a tip-off, a team of custom department arrested Jamal Uddin at Shah Amanat International Airport. Chattogram on February 22, 2017 along with six pieces gold bar.
Then, a case was filed with the Patenga police station. Police submitted charge-sheet against him on March 24, 2017 while the court framed charges on July 17, 2017.
One held with 1kg cocaine : Rapid Action Battalion of Chattogram (RAB-7) arrested one-drug traffickers along with 1kg cocaine worth Tk 16 Cr in Boropul area under Halishahar of Chattogram on Monday evening.
The arrestee identified as Anwar Hossain, 35.
Mahmudul Hassan Mamun, Assistant Director of RAB-7 (Media) said, on a tip-off RAB-7 conduct a drive-in Boropul area of Halishahar and arrested Anwar along with 1kg cocaine.
