Eastern University (EU) has received a grant from One Asia Foundation of Japan to conduct a course on Asian Community. The course titled ‘Asian Community: Economy and Culture’ was offered for the first time in spring semester, 2016 in the Faculty of Business Administration of Eastern University.
The closing ceremony of the course was marked with the presence of Yoji Sato, Founder Chairman of One Asia Foundation as the chief guest of the program. Among others, Abul Khair Chowdhury, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Eastern University, Prof Dr Abdur Rab, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Prof Dr Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Pro Vice Chancellor, Eastern University, Muhammed Siddique Hossain, Treasurer, Eastern University, Deans and Advisors of Faculties, Chairpersons of Departments and Registrar were present. The program was attended by the participating students of the course, Faculty Members, and other officials of the University.
Prof Masafumi Sato, Visiting Professor from Kaetsu University, Japan was the speaker for the inaugural session. Other foreign distinguished speakers gave lectures during the course. Several local distinguished speakers including Prof Dr Sharif Nurul Ahkam, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, EU; M Humayun Kabir, Former Ambassador, People’s Republic of Bangladesh; Retired Major General Md. Abdur Rashid, Executive Director, Institute of Conflict, Law & Development Studies; Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, Former Governor, Bangladesh Bank, and Prof Dr AKM Moazzem Hussain, Former Professor of BUET, Bangladesh gave lectures at different classes of the course.
The objective of the course was to gain a better appreciation of the similarities and commonalities of various Asian cultures, common objectives of growth and developing better ties with each other.
With an enhanced mutual understanding of the practices, desires and prospects of the cultures, this course paves the way for continuous growth of Asia, peace, pride in our heritage, and maximizes the potential of Asia in general.
The course offered for undergraduate students of all universities, Government and NGO officials. A total of 62 participants attended the course and received tuition scholarships from One Asia Foundation, Japan.
The President of One Asia Foundation, Yoji Sato awarded twelve best students of the class a merit scholarship of $ 250. Yoji Sato distributed certificates to the participants for course completion.
