An unidentified youth allegedly member of a dacoit gang was killed in a gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of Barisal Metropolitan Police at Battala area in CharAicha village under Shayestabad Union of Barisal Sadar Upazila early yesterday.
Nasiruddin Mallick, assistant commissioner (DB) of BMP, confirming the report, said a team of DB was patrolling in the area as robbery increased there.
About 2:40 AM Sunday they sensing a suspected gathering in the area challenged them for identification.
Then the suspected persons opening fire on police team tried to flee from the spot.
Police also retaliated by firing 17 rounds gunshot to save own lives and after fleeing the miscreants found dead body of an unidentified person at the spot.
Police also recovered one pipe gun, eight bullets, one choppers and one Ramda from the spot.
Body of the shot dead victim sent to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy and identification, said Nurul Islam, officer in charge of Kawnia police station.
