The programme of selling rice at the rate of Tk 30 per kg has been inaugurated in Ramgarh of Khagrachhari. Under OMS, 1200 low income families are given 5 kg per day at the rate of Tk 30 per kg rice.
On Thursday Ramgarh Upazila Chairman Vishwa Pradip Kumar Karbari and UNO Khondkar Md Ikhtiyar Uddin Arafat officially inaugurated the programme.
Rice is being sold through 3 sales centers of 3 dealers at Masterpara, Bazar area and Sonaipool market of Ramgarh Municipality. While inaugurating this program, Upazila Chairman Biswa Pradeep Kumar Karbari said that due to the increase in the price of food products in the international market due to the Corona pandemic and the war situation in different countries, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided to distribute rice at a low price through OMS, thinking about the suffering of the low-income people across the country. Upazila executive officer Khondkar Md Ikhtiyar Uddin Arafat said that 1200 families can buy rice at the rate of 5 kg per head daily through three dealers of the municipality. Besides, 10,000 TCB card holders of the upazila will also get this facility. Upazila Food Officer Himu Chakma said that three dealers of the upazila are being allotted 6 tonnes of rice per day (Atap and Siddha). This program will continue for three months. At that time, Ramgarh food warehouse officer-in-charge Md. Sahid Alam and public representatives were present.
BSS from Chattogram adds: The Open Market Sale (OMS) of rice began at 33 points in Chattogram City on Thursday aimed at stabilizing the rice market.
According to the District Food Control Office, 28 metric tons of rice will be sold daily at 14 points in the city through 14 open trucks.
Each truck will have two metric tons of rice. Besides, another two metric tons of rice and 5500 kg of flour will be sold every day at the designated
dealers’ shops at 19 points in the city.
A buyer can buy five kg of rice from an open truck at a price of Tk 30 each kg. Besides, five kg of rice can be bought for Tk 30 each and another five kg of flour for Tk 18 each kg from the dealer shops.
On the other hand, the food-friendly programme has also started in 15 upazilas of the district from September 1.
Chattogram District Food Controller Abdul Quader said the program will continue for the next three months at different points in the city.
