OMS of rice begins in Gaibandha , Khulna

The Food Department started the Open Market Sale (OMS) of rice at different points in the city on Monday.
The government has decided to sell rice at open market as prices of all varieties of rice have gone up despite different government initiatives, triggering worries among common people both in urban and rural areas, said Food Department officials.
The places where rice are being sold include Natun Bazar Rupsha embankment area, Phulbarigate area, Khora Slum area, Minaxi Cinema Hall area, Chanmary Bazaar, Chitrali Bazar, Afil Jute Mill Bazar, Basupara Bazar, Natun Bazar, Mistrypara Bazar, Kalibari Bazar, Baikali Bazar and Kudir Bottala area. District Controller of Food Md Kamal Hossain, said, “There is enough stock of rice at all the warehouses in Khulna.”
Meanwhile, Khulna District Administration has already formed three teams to monitor OMS of rice.
Khulna Deputy Commissioner Amin-ul-Ahsan said mobile court would give penalty to the people involved in manipulation of OMS.
BSS from Gaibandha reports: Rice sale under government’s Open Market Sale (OMS) began in the district on Monday to help feed the poor at a lower price and to arrest the price hike of rice.

inaugurated the OMS programme here through selling rice to the poor as the chief guest and district marketing officer Moazzem Hossain was present as the special guest.
The function was organised by food department in front of Public Library here with district controller of food M. Amzad Hossain in the chair.
Each of the consumers is allowed to purchase at best 5 kgs of rice from the center and the price of per kg of rice have been fixed at Tk 30, said M Alam Miah, a dealer of the department.
A total of 5 sale centers have been set up in the district town where 5 tonnes of coarse rice would be sold every day, sources said.
On the opening day, many poor men and women were purchasing atta from the outlet standing in long queues.
Talking to the BSS district controller of food M. Amzad Hossain said the programme would continue till starting the harvest of Aman paddy of the current season.
Monitoring and supervising by the officials had been geared up in the district so that any dealers could not sell the OMS atta in black markets, he also said.
