Oman suspended air communication with Bangladesh from Monday, Md Mokabbir Hossain, Managing Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines told The New Nation.
Oman has taken such a step to stem the coronavirus spreading as the fourth country in
the Middle East following Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.
In addition, flights to and from Delhi, Kolkata, Bangkok and Kathmandu have also been suspended.
However, Biman will operate a special flight from Saudi Arabia tomorrow morning to bring back around 300 stranded Bangladeshi nationals, who went to perform Umrah (Islamic pilgrimage), Biman officials said.
The special flight will leave King Fahad International Airport for Dhaka at 7:30am, Saudi local time, added Tahera. The MD said that Biman may face about Tk 2500 crore lose due to coronavirus situation worldwide.
“A total 10 countries suspended air communications with Bangladesh so far. It pushed Biman Bangladesh Airlines towards a huge lose. As a rough assumption, Biman may face about about Tk 2500 crore lose,” said the Biman MD.
