Surprise package Oman kept the Middle East’s flag flying as they scraped past their African rival Ghana when they registered a nerve wrecking 4-3 win in the quarterfinal match of World Hockey League (WHL) Round 2 held on Thursday at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium.
Mohammed Al Lawati and Basim Khatar Rajab slotted one goal each for Oman in 6th and 17th minutes respectively.
Ghana reduced the margin in the 18th minute when Johnny converted a penalty for his team.
Omar surged further ahead in the 34th mninute Khalid scored a field goal to make it 3-1.
Oman made life miserable for Ghana when they scored their fourth goal in the 37th (4-1).
Ghana fought hard and slotted two goals in 49th and 59th minute to make it 3-4. But Oman managed to cling to their narrow lead for the final few moments to cross into the last four.
