Oman has issued a general amnesty for 25 Bangladesh nationals who are in jail there for various offences.
Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said announced the amnesty on Nov 18 marking the 45th National Day, Bangladesh Embassy’s Labour Councillor Rabiul Islam said in an e-mail.An estimated 600,000 workers from Bangladesh are staying in Oman, many of them illegally.
Oman earlier announced an amnesty for illegal workers on May 3 which expired on Oct 28.
