An old woman was killed while a small child among four others sustained serious injuries as a truck loaded with shah brand cement and an auto rickshaw collided head -on at Islampur area under Faridganj Upazila on Chandpur -Faridganj -Roypur Regional highway in the afternoon on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Sajuda Begum, 55, a resident of Sachonmegh village of the same Upazila.
Police source said, the accident took place when a speedy truck, loaded with Shah brand cement and an auto rickshaw carrying the passengers collided head on at Islampur area leaving Sajuda Begum dead on the spot and a small child, two other passengers and the driver of the CNG run -taxi seriously injured. Locals rushed them all to Faridganj Health Complex where the on doctor declared Sajuda already dead.
On getting information, Faridganj Thana Police rushed to the spot and arrested the driver Sajib Hossain Ridoy, 19, while fleeing, with the help of the local people.
