Old woman died after drinking pesticides in Kapasia

A 105-year-old widow died after consuming pesticides in Hijulia village of Karihata union in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur. Deceased is Ramiza Khatun, wife of Ah Kudduche of Hijulia village of Kapasia upazila. He has two sons and three daughters. They are all married and live in separate households.
The younger son of the deceased Aktaruzaman said, I do agricultural work, I buy liquid pesticides from the market for use on land and keep them on the showcase. On Saturday afternoon I found her room smelling bad and mother very unconscious. An open bottle of that pesticide was lying in the drinking bowl next to it. It is believed that the mother consumed the insecticide from that shed. Later, when he was taken to Kapasia Upazila Health Center in an unconscious state, the doctor on duty washed his stomach and advised him to be taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
Ramiza Khatun was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital at 9:15 pm on Saturday, where the doctor on duty declared her dead. Pending the application, the body was handed over to the coroners without post-mortem on Saturday night.
Member of Karihata Union. Lutfar Rahman admitted the truth of the incident and said that Ramiza Khatun lived with her younger son and used to carry a stick. On the day of the incident, son Aktaruzzaman was in the local market and his wife was at her father-in-law’s house. Ramiza drank the pesticide sometime on Saturday afternoon in the empty house. Later, he was first taken to the Upazila Health Complex and later to the Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, where the doctors on duty declared him dead. However, the deceased Ramiza sometimes lost his balance. No one in the house could tell how the pesticide was consumed.
Kapasia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AFM Nasim said that Ramiza drank the insecticide thinking it was her own medicine. Later, following the application, the body was handed over to the relatives without post-mortem on Saturday night.
