A septuagenarian old man was killed in an attack over a trifling matter at Rosaitola village in Nalitabari upazila on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nur Islam,75, son of late Nosor Ali, a resident of the village.
Police and family members said Sanower Hossain, neighbour of Nur Islam, alleged that his (deceased’s) grandson Mahfujur Rahman had stolen rice from his (Sanower’s) house.
Following this, Marium Begum (daughter of the victim) locked into an altercation with Sanower around 11.00am.
At one stage, Sanower hurt him critically with bamboo stick on the head leaving him dead on the spot.
Officer-in-charge of Nalitabari Police Station AKM Aminul Haque confirming the incident said the murder occurred over a trifling matter.
The body was sent to Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
A case was filed in this connection.
