An old man named Ashwab Ali (60) met tragic end when he fell from a betel-nut tree in his homestead in the village Madhabkathi within Dhopakhali Union Parishad under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat on Wednesday.
It is learnt that at the noon of the day the deceased, son of one late Nehal Uddin of the village climbed the betel-nut tree to pluck betel-nuts and when he reached the top of the tree it (tree) was suddenly broken, dashed against a coco-nut tree and fell on the ground. As a result, the old man was fatally injured. On hearing his groaning some locals rushed to the spot, recovered him and sent him to Kachua Upazila Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
