Abdul Alim :
Hundreds of old Dhaka roads and streets have been dug for installing new sewerage lines and expansion of drains to pump out rain water.
But it has blocked movement of transports of all kinds including rickshaws and thereby created untold sufferings for the residents of Nayabazar and Bangshal in particular. Nobody knows when the lengthy construction and repairing work for development of sewerage and utility service lines will end.
Even the construction and repairing work continues digging pits and cracking the roads without arranging alternative ways in the interests of the city dwellers.
The commuters and the pedestrians are experiencing accidents almost everyday due to pits and cracks on the road.
People’s anguish has mounted due to blocking of roads without arranging alternative roads and streets.
Hundreds of vehicles and rickshaw have been seen to wait for hours to go to the destinations and thereby creating long tailback on the roads.
In this circumstances, normal life of thousands of city dwellers is being seriously hampered as they cannot move freely on the roads due to a huge number of potholes.
Meanwhile, Nayabazar, Nabab Katara, Banglabazar, TSC to Bakshibazar and Motijheel-Dilkusha Roads have

already become booby trap for public.
Many roads have become narrow as well.
The dwellers are bound to pay extra mony for using alternative ways by rickshaw, car, bus and others vehicles.
Afzal Hossain, a pedestrian of Nayabazar, told The New Nation on Sunday, “The city corporation repairing work continues digging pits and cracking the roads without arranging alternative ways for the city dwellers.”
“Our sufferings know no bounds” Salma Begum of old Dhaka Nabab Katara Road area told The New Nation on Sunday. DSCC Superintendent Engineer (Civil) Kazi Md. Borhan Uddin, told The New Nation, “This year we have taken the initiative to reform some 275 kilometers roads and streets area in DSCC.”
