Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan on Thursday said the government would recover the old Buriganga channel and turn it into a beautiful recreational place like the Hatirjheel project.
“We will take a project like Hatirjheel for beautification of the old Buriganga channel after recovering its shores from illegal occupation”, he said while launching the activities for recovering of the channel from grabbers and managing waste at Islambagh in the old part of the capital city.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka District Administration jointly organised the initiatives.
Chaired by BIWTA Chairman Commodore M Mozammel Haque, the programme was also addressed, among others, by DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon and National River Protection Commission Chairman M Ataharul Islam.
