People with heavy, medium and light vehicles are crossing risky bridge at Gomnati Union of Domar upazila in Nilphamari district. Locals demanded reconstruction of the risky bridge immediately
It is learnt that in the middle of Gomnati Bazar and Amberi Hat of Gomnati union of Domar upazila, hundreds of trucks, buses, micro-pickups and auto rickshaws pass through the century on the centuries-old risky bridge on the Panga River. Since Gomnati Bazar and Amberi Hat are business centres , hundreds of freight trucks ply on this bridge every day.
Besides , it is the only straight road to go to Deaminganj upazila of Panchagarh district along with Bhogadburi, Ketkibari, Kushbari union of the upazila.
After the Liberation War, half portion of the bridge was broken and the bailey bridge was built . As a result, the bridge is divided into two parts.
There are connections between the two bridges. The longevity of the bridge has not been reformed or repartitioned. At that moment, the residents of the bridge collapsed due to a major accident. Gomnati Union resident Shafiqul Islam, UP member Jahidul Islam said, “I am coming to see the bridge from the very same age.
Gradually, the bridge may collapse at any time and there could be major accidents. Nilphamari Road Division Engineer Noor Alam said , all the procedures have been completed for the bridge construction.
