Oishee Rahman has appealed against the death sentence given when she was found guilty of murdering both her parents.
Her Counsel Mahbub Hasan Rana told this news agency that the appeal documents were filed with the High Court on Sunday. “The appeal seeks her acquittal. We have requested the court to consider the issue of her age. The prosecution told the trial court that Oishee is an adult; we claimed she’s under-aged while the verdict described her as a teenager,” Rana said.
On Nov 12, Dhaka’s Third Speedy Trial
Tribunal found Oishee guilty of murdering her police officer father and housewife mother. The court also found her friend Mizanur Rahman Rony guilty of abetment and sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment.
Asaduzzaman Jony, another friend of Oishee, was acquitted after he had faced charges of abetment.
Charges have been also pressed against the underage house help Khadija Akter Sumi. She is being tried before a juvenile court. Police Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman were found murdered in their apartment in Dhaka in 2013. The bloodstained bodies were found in a locked bathroom in their apartment.
